The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) at UCLA is pleased to accept the BMES Outstanding Achievement award, which is the highest chapter award on offer. This award is given to highlight chapters with outstanding leadership and immeasurable growth across social activities, mentorship, fundraising, community outreach, and industry partnerships.

In the past year, BMES has sought to expand upon the opportunities we offer to students interested in bioengineering by improving our activities in each of these branches. We strengthened our mentorship families and fostered community engagement through family events like Frog Night and Hot Pot Night. We expanded outreach to high school students through bioengineering undergraduate panels that opened doors for students to explore bioengineering career paths. For our members, we strengthened our industry connections by continuing to organize our Industry Mentorship Program with the Bioengineering department’s Industry Advisory Board. We raised nearly $4,000 through our SPARK campaign to support the growth of our technical projects division by introducing the new project Research Team, presenting several projects at regional conferences, and doubling the size of our introductory Cell Team. BMES at UCLA will continue to build upon these efforts and innovate new opportunities for students to succeed in bioengineering while creating a supportive community.Â
